The track was written by Enrique Iglesias and Chein García-Alonso; the latter also wrote the singles "Experiencia Religiosa" and "Revolución" for Iglesias. The video for "Esperanza" was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra.

Chart performance

The track debuted on the United States Billboard Hot Latin Tracks chart at number 4 on September 26, 1998[1] and stayed at number 4 the following week. No charts were published for the weeks of October 10 and October 17, 1998. For the week of October 24, 1998, the charts were finally announced and the single was at number 1,[2] spending 4 weeks at the summit. The song spent 15 weeks inside the top ten and 24 non-consecutive weeks in the top 40.
